Safe Streets

I want to see Cobourg's streets safe, inviting, and clean. I don't want to see people addicted to drugs on our streets. I don't want to see homeless people on our streets. I don't want to see the refuse caused, nor the anxiety induced. 

I want to find the most effective and least costly way of accomplishing that goal. Housing people in jails is the single most expensive, and simultaneously, the least effective method of achieving these goals. 

What works? Housing First with effective wraparound services, including mental health supports, rehabilitation, and job preparation, is the cheapest and most effective way to mitigate homelessness and combat the use of drugs in our streets.

There are many examples of municipalities, regions, and countries that have come a long way in solving homelessness and drug use. We should follow the examples that show promise and success.
